The first of the hail storm injured pelicans have arrived

On November 2, 2025 multiple areas of the Gulf Coast and some inland areas were hit by a surprise hail storm.  Some of the hail was reported to be over the size of softballs.  Not only homes, vehicles and businesses receive substantial damage, our wild bird population took a severe hit.

There are reports of over 2,000 wild birds that were severely injured and killed. TPWD brought the ARK on Port Aransas over 300 birds in 36 hours.  As they perform triage they have been reaching out to other rehabs to assist in caring for the birds that can be saved.  WRC has been asked to take in some Pelicans.

Last night we went and picked up five Brown Pelicans.  Each have long term care needs.  Today we will be going to pick up more.  We will keep you posted as the pelis arrive and are rehabbed to be released.

Any donations to assist us with care, meds and veterinarian visits are greatly appreciated.  We can use donations of plastic kiddie pools over "36.

The Coastal Bend is home to an amazing variety of birds – some native, some migratory, many threatened and endangered. Wings Rescue Center is a State and Federal permitted bird rescue rehabilitation center serving Aransas County and surrounding counties.

WRC cares for injured, orphaned and ill birds with the goal of returning them to the wild. The Center is comprised of two care centers and multiple cages and enclosures, including a raptor area, each designed to facilitate the rehabilitation of wild birds large and small, from hummingbirds to pelicans.

WRC's  facility in South Texas takes in abandoned eggs and baby birds.

With the generous community support, Wings volunteers continue to work tirelessly to give birds a second chance at life in the wild.
