OUR FRIENDS NEED YOUR HELP! Since the BIG freeze of 2021, birds that normally are here now are finding it hard to find the essential foods and nutrients they need for the mating season. If we can all extend them an helping hand and provide them with this, we just may have a Spring filled with all the beauties and songs that we are use to. Below are a couple ofrecipes that will help with feeding our friends . TIA, WRC. Thank you for helping our feathered friends!

Adding dried mealworms to the sugar water for hummers and blend real fine will give them the protein they need because of lack of insects.
Blend a teaspoon of mealworms per cup of sugar water.
Feeders will need to be changed every other day and mix refrigerated.

4 cups of water to a boil.
1 cup of white granulated sugar.
1/4 cup of mealworms (blended)
Stir well until the sugar is dissolved.
Boil this mixture for 2 minutes to help prevent it from spoiling too rapidly.
Allow to thoroughly cool.
Pour into clean hummingbird feeders.

Enough for 3 cakes (double or triple recipe if you want several cakes)

1/2 cup of sun flower seeds
1/2 cup of raisins
1/2 cup of peanut butter
¾ cup of oatmeal
1 1/4 cups of corn meal
1 ¼ cups of flour
1/2 tsp of salt
½ cup of lard
Melt the lard in the microwave in 30 second bursts until it is completely liquified. (Lard can catch on fire it it develops a hot spot.)
Gently add water as needed. *You want this to be a cookie dough consistency.
Add remaining ingredients.
Place in containers and freeze. You can use a cookie sheet and cover it and freeze it if you don’t have containers.
